Day 8,9 31 Days left Day 1 of Chemo

Greetings,

It's been a couple of days so i thought i would catch up on the end of the week.

Day 8 Thursday went the same, good news is that there is better music, looks like the FMLA is now all straightened out, Talked to the Radiation Doctor and he says things are progressing nicely, there is no change in the tumor just yet, but its not getting any bigger.

He should try it from my end, it seems like its getting bigger, swallowing is getting harder and real painful.

There are a few here that will understand this, some hikers, a dirt truck person or two, ever get so that your mouth is all dried out? i mean no fluid at all? its all dry and glued to the top of your mouth? picture that every couple of hours at night, there is nothing i can do about it, i will be sleeping and then reflex takes over, i try and swallow and its all dry and the pain of the dry mouth wakes you up, but its all good with a nice cup of cold water.

Let it sit, let it soak in to mouth, slowly take it in, ah, great, now don't make the mistake i did the first time and try and drink water in like it was normal, it does not work, you end up spitting it up on yourself and the cat, well that part is funny.

Friday day 9, day 1 of chemo, well somethings never change, i arrived at chemo on time (8.45 for a 9.am appt) and was greeted with a hurry up and wait, was set in a chair and at 9.26 they came and set me up for a IV, about 30 minutes later they set the Fluids and about 20 minutes after that they came in with the chemo drugs and plugged me in, now sit back, relax.

I am not really complaining, they did not mix up the drugs until i arrived, and it is mixed up over at the hospital and then sent over, so they are at the Mercy of the pharmacist just like i am, they do not mix it up before hand on the theory of "if you don't make it here its wasted". Some chemo meds are mixed up on site and not prepackaged, i think i knew that from somewhere, something one of my mom's doctors told me a few years ago.

I did feel real safe when they started all the list of stuff to watch out for, bleeding from orifices that you don't normally bleed from, vomiting, diarrhea, wanting to vote for socialized medical care, and my favorite "not breathing" uh what?

if i am not breathing i think that's a thing to watch out for if i am taking this drug or not, seems a small group on a southern area of the USA just stopped breathing within about 72 hours of the administration of this drug, but only in this one area, but they have to tell you this anyways.

So of those out there keeping score, i am still breathing.

well its past closing time, off i will go, sleep well, i am keeping watch.

yeah, that not breathing thing could be a real problem - i don't recommend it. at times i've had a problem with dry mouth like you describe and it used to help me to suck on a lozenge when going to sleep. the lozenge would help me salivate a little while sleeping. OK, occasionally i drooled...but would you rather drool or be dry? the only thing i'd worry about for you is choking on the lozenge. might be worth a try?
