I am not posting this blog for anyone's pity, sympathy or such, i am posting it because i am thinking it might help someone, just one who might have to go through this like i am starting.
Please do not feel like you have to make fun of my spelling or grammar, i know i have limitations, and you would be just deemed a jerk anyways, so lets begin.
Well i did not know if i was going to start this or not, but i have decided to, a more detailed post will follow later today, it is going on 5am in California and i have an appointment at 6.30am so i will keep this semi brief.
At the end of last year i had what was initially diagnosed as a slight throat infection, it did not get better after two courses of antibiotics but i was told it should get better.
It did seem to get better for a bit but after 90 days it was just as bad and there was a "hole" in the back on my right tonsil, i went back to the doctor and he now pronounced it as a "abscessed tonsil" and i was back on antibiotics for 10days, i was told this should do it, that did not do it, i was back in his office a week after i finished the pills and he looked again.
I was promptly refereed to a ENT oncologist, I watched his face while he did his initial look, i would like to play poker for real money against him, he cannot hide a thing, after being in his office and having tubes down the throat, down the nose i was told the following;
"You have a stage 2 throat cancer, there is a longer, fancier name but that is what it boils down to", before you ask, i do not smoke, i gave it up over 25 years ago, and it was a small habit, i do not drink, so that ruled out those two risk factors, i am being tested for HPV now but that is for risk assessment only.
My Doctor (the ENT guy) now had me going here, there and everywhere that afternoon, i went to pre-op to get checked out for the biopsy i have done yesterday (06/30/2009) i spent last Friday in a nuclear medicine lab getting a PET/CT scan, i am waiting on the results of that test now.
This is where i end now, i will return in a bit.
